Photobiomodulation / Light Therapy

Light That Works With Your Cells

Photobiomodulation (PBM), commonly called Red Light Therapy, is a non-invasive therapy that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to influence biological processes within cells.

Unlike UV light, PBM does not work by damaging or tanning the skin. It delivers light energy that can be absorbed by cellular photoacceptors, including those associated with the mitochondria — the structures responsible for producing much of the cell's usable energy. Research suggests PBM can influence mitochondrial activity, ATP production, nitric oxide, oxidative signaling, and cellular responses involved in inflammation and tissue repair.

Mechanism

How does PBM work?

Think of your mitochondria as your cells' energy centers.

  1. LIGHTRed & near-infrared photons
  2. CELLULAR RESPONSEAbsorbed by cellular structures
  3. ATP & SIGNALINGMitochondrial activity triggered
  4. RECOVERY & REPAIREnergy, circulation, repair

Red and near-infrared photons are absorbed by cellular structures. This can influence mitochondrial activity and trigger signaling pathways associated with cellular energy production, circulation, inflammation and tissue recovery.
